To John Balfour1    26 June 1862

26. june 62.

My dear Professor Balfour.

I am much obliged to you for your kindness of sending me so regularly the records and publications of your botanical Society and recently the highly interesting memoir on Clerodendron Thomsonae,2 a plant not only highly ornamental, but also structural-interesting. I have also yet 1 or 2 new Clerodendron sp to describe. I had the pleasure of meeting young Dr Logan, one of your pupils, a few days ago in Melbourne. Should he directly return to Edinburgh from here, I will send some collections for you through him, otherwise by the first other opportunity.

Under care of Mr Osborn[e], a near relation to Prof Allman, I have sent pr Sussex on the 14 April a copy of the 1 vol of my "plants indigenous to Victoria"3 to your bot society and also one copy to the Royal Society of Edinburgh. [P]erceiving 4 that you are the Secr. of the R. S. E. I would like to ask whether I can be in any way useful to the Society. If so command unhesitatingly my services. On the 19. jan 1860 I forwarded under care of Jam. Thomson Esq pr Ocean Chief a number of Copies of vol IV, I of our R. S. transactions to your friendly care for distribution. I am not certain that they arrived; would you kindly let me know, whether they ever reached you?

Most regardfully

yours

Ferd Mueller

I have nearly completed an enumeration of all the plants collected by Stuart on his journey through Central Australia. It contains no diagnoses, which are published in my fragmenta, but gives an idea of the interior vegetation. The list not being very extensive, I intend to send it to you, as it may be of interest to the Edinburgh bot. Society & perhaps worthy of publication.5
