Melbourne botanic Garden
3 July 1862.
Sir
I have the honor of submitting to you a voucher for the compensation, to which the claimant, Mr John Dallachy according to the new civil service bill would be entitled in consequence of the abolishment of his office as Curator of the Melbourne botanic Garden.
Mr Dallachy being desirous to open a private nursery and depending for this purpose on the means of his compensation, I beg to solicit, that his claims may receive the early and favourable consideration of the Government.1
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your obedient and humble servant
Ferd. Mueller
The honorable the Chief Secretary

An account for £318. 15/- was forwarded to Treasury on 7 July and confirmed on 14 July 1862. Although there are reports of Dallachy operating a nursery in what is now East Prahran, Vic, (e.g., Maiden (1908)) it is not clear whether the payment was made or that he established his own nursery; see Dowe and Maroske (2016), p. 94.
