To John Balfour   31 October 1862

Melbourne bot. Garden

31/10/62.

My dear Professor.

I beg to forward to you now the dissertation on the N.W. Australian plants, to which I referred in a former letter,1 trusting that you will regard it worthy of your acceptance for the bot. Society of Edinburgh2 & at any rate as a token of my cordial desire to promote the objects of the Society. When I have a little leisure I will be happy to send you some of these plants for your herbarium together with some other duplicates, which are now under the process of being sorted

Should you & the Council of the botanic Society deem this paper worthy of being printed, I would be obliged for a few extracopies & if you kindly would send one or two for Mr Gregory3 to the care of Sir Roderick Murchison. The former Gentleman is at present staying in England.

With sentiments of the highest regards, I remain, dear Professor Balfour,

your attached

Ferd Mueller

I had a very interesting letter from your pupil Dr Kirk by last mail. It will probably appear in one of our daily papers.4
