From Ferdinand von Mueller to John O'Shanassy   3 Dec 1862

Thanking the honorable the Chief Secretary for his friendly interest in my application I rejoice that the hope is held out to acquire this boon for the garden during the coming year1

Ferd. Mueller

3/12/62

In M to J. O'Shanassy, 12 November 1862, M pointed out the significant cost of relying on hand labour for watering the Botanic Garden, and the cost benefit of supplying the Garden with Yan Yean water and then distributing it by gravity. O'Shanassy evidently followed this up, for the file cover indicates that it once contained an 'Estimate of the cost of supplying Bot Gardens with water from the Yan Yean' supplied by the Inspector General of Public Works, with a note from O'Shanassy dated 29 November 1862, 'Forward to Dr Mueller for his consideration', and a further note from the Under Scretary, J. Moore, dated 1 December. 'Forwarded accordingly'.

For the development of the water supply to the Garden, see Lamb (1996).

Item is a note on an empty file cover.
