J'ai l'honneur de vous informer que, sur ma présentation, Sa Majesté l'Empereur mon Auguste Souverain, a daigné vous nommer Chevalier de Son Ordre Imperial de la Legion d'Honneur. Comme Ministre des affaires étrangères et comme président de la Societé Impériale d'Acclimatation, j'éprouve un double plaisir a vous annoncer cette nouvelle. J'espère que vous voudrez bien y voir, avec le témoignage de l'éstime particuliere de Sa Majesté, pour votre mérite et les services que vous avez deja rendus a notre pays, en cherchant de le doter de vos plus precieuses espèces animales ou végétales, le gage de ma gratitude personelle pour votre généreux concours donné à l'oeuvre universelle de l'acclimatation et surtout à celle de la Société Impériale que j'ai l'honneur de presider.

Sir and Dear Colleague,
I have the honour to inform you that, on my presentation, His Majesty the Emperor my august Sovereign has deigned to name you Knight of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honour. As Minister for foreign affairs and as president of the Imperial Acclimatization Society, I find double pleasure in announcing this news to you. I hope that you will see there, with the proof of the particular esteem of His Majesty for your merit and the services that you have already rendered to our country by searching to equip us with your most precious animal or plant species, the token of my personal gratitude for your generous assistance given to the universal work of acclimatization and especially that given to the Imperial Society over which I have the honour of presiding.
