From Ferdinand von Mueller to John O'Shanassy   26 Jan 1863

Melbourne bot. Garden,

26 Jan 63

Sir

I have the honor to solicit your permission to proceed to Phillip Island and some other parts of Western Port1 for the purpose of algological investigations, the locality not having been visited by me before.

Since Prof. Harveys work on Australian Algae2 will be finished within the next months, it is of importance that a locality, richer than any other in Australia of seaweeds, such as Phillip Island, should be carefully examined & I am therefore anxious to devote with your acquiescence about three weeks for the purpose.3

I have the honor to be,

Sir,

your very obedient & humble servant

Ferd. Mueller

The honorable the Chief Secretary

&c & &

Vic.

Harvey (1858-63).

See M to J. O’Shanassy, 7 February 1863, and M to J. O’Shanassy, 10 March 1863.
