From Thomas Black to Ferdinand von Mueller   27 Feb 1863

February 27 [186]31

My dear Sir

The Secretary has shown me the authority issued to him by yourself on behalf of the Trustees; but I think it is not extensive enough. What the Council wish him to have is the same authority as was possessed by the late Superintendent viz to act as ranger of the Park so far as the Trustees can give him that authority. With the document you have sent he is quite powerless to prevent any person destroying the fence or otherwise misconducting himself.

I am

My dear Sir

Yours faithfully2

To Ferdinand Mueller Esq M.D. F.R.S.

editorial addition.

The unsigned file copy was made by George Sprigg, Honorary Secretary, Acclimatisation Society of Victoria. Thomas Black, Acting President of the Society, presumably signed the original of the letter. M to G Sprigg 6 March 1863 (in this edition as 63-03-06b) is the new letter.
