Hochverehrter Herr Professor

Ferd Mueller

Revered Professor,

The Dutch steamer, the warship Djambi, is expected shortly in our harbour, and if I can possibly arrange it, I shall, by the kindness of the commander, forward by it a case of plants for your herbarium.

I still owe you my photograph and enclose it here in the hope, that you will graciously accept it, but I regret that a prolonged bronchial affliction has given me such a melancholy appearance that will, I hope, be replaced by a more friendly expression with returning good health.2

I admire your restless activity and productivity in the literary field. I have your volumes on the Indian plants complete.3 However, I have tried unsuccessfully for years to purchase your publications on the Casuarinae through the book trade.4 Would you be so kind to assist me in this?

Pamplin in London, Bailliere in Paris, or Sonder in Hamburg would act as agents for any transmission to me.

May your valuable life long be preserved to science and to your admirers.

Always your

Ferd. Mueller.
