To George Bentham   25 May 1863

2[5]/5/63

Dear Mr Bentham.

I have just before mail-close received safely and soundly the two boxes with specimina you kindly returned by the "Roxburgh Castle" Sir John Young, the Governor of New South Wales, informs me also to-day by letter,1 that the Premier of his Ministry has caused the 50 £ for vol. I to be forwarded by this mail to the Colonial Agents in London. No doubt you will be informed officially, otherwise however the sum will be available to Lovell Reeve on your authorizing him to draw it; at least I should presume so.

Has Acacia colletioides really phyllodia? they are not jointed to the branchlets. Should we not consider them ramuli? If so the species would stand next A. spinescens, with which it agrees in habitual characters. I am aware that the nature of a leaf not requires it be articulated with the branchlet; but I think all other phyllodia are so. I have revised a portion of the proofs of Acacia, but nothing is ready for sending to you by this mail.

Should you receive any plants from Mr W. Hill of Brisbane collected in the northern parts of Queensland I should feel so much obliged if you will lay aside their examination, until the respective orders, to which they belong are coming before you for elucidation. I venture to make this request as I have Mr Dallachy in North-Queensland collecting purposely and shall probably receive from him many of the same plants, which Hill may be gathering.

I have admired much the illustrations of the Wewitschia2 mirabilis

Most regardfully,

your

Ferd Mueller
