Sir
Herewith I have the honor to [forward] you a list2 of all animals & birds in the possession of the Society on the 1st July 1863 in order that it may be laid before the Trustees.
I have most respectfully to apologise for not having returned a list quarterly according to your instructions fowd3 to me under date of April 11th 18624 but the simple fact is that until I was reminded of it the other day by one of the Trustees this instruction had been entirely overlooked.
The next return shall be made up on October 1st.5
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obedt Servant
Geo Sprigg

See M to G. Sprigg, 11 April 1862 (in this edition as 62-04-11a).
No subsequent communication from Sprigg incorporating such a return has been found, and no such return was reported to the Royal Park Trustees. There is a list in the Annual Report of the Acclimatisatiion Society of Victoria, no. 2,1863, p. 39, but it does not distinguish between the locations at which the stock were held, whether Royal Park, the Botanic Garden or Phillip Island.
Lapsus by Sprigg? M was Honarary Secretary to the Royal Park Trustees, the capacity in which he wrote to Sprigg in April.
