To William Branwhite Clarke1    7 September 1863

7/9/63.

Reverend and dear Sir.

By last mail I forwarded a few notes on the relation of the Flora of NZ to that of Austr. & Tasm.2 I hope these will be sufficient for your purpose. If not I will most gladly afford you any additional information. I mentioned also, that it would likely fall to my share, to throw light on the vegetation of the Chatham Islands.3 Should you deem any portion of my letter worthy of publication pray refer not to this probability of my elucidating the Botany of the Chatham Islands4

It is yet for me to express my grateful appreciation of your kindness in gratulating me to my new dignities, which by the participations of friends like you in my happiness are much raised in my estimation. Under the present intimate relation of the Danish & British Courts5 I value as a former Scandinavian the honor very high.6

Ever with the sincerest wishes for your health & happiness yours

Ferd. Mueller
