Sir
With reference to the letter from Major Hall2 complaining of interference from the Park keeper with one of the Commisariat carters, I have the honor to inform you of the circumstances of the case. Firstly allow me to premise that my instructions are to the Gatekeeper that all persons going to or coming from the Magazine3 are to be considered totally exempt from rules which are only framed by the Trustees for the general public. Upon the occasion referred to the carter was not in uniform nor was there any badge to indicate that he belonged to the Military authorities. He was driving across the grass in a very needless manner when he was spoken to by [Hinde]. Upon the carter's reply that he was employed by the Military authorities [Hinde] showed him the road & nothing more was said. This was all and I can only regret that such a trifling was not reported to me instead of troubling yourself and Mr Hodgkinson & Major Hall about the matter.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obedt Servant
