From Ferdinand von Mueller to Henry Warde   29 Oct 1863

Melbourne botanic Garden,

29. Oct. 1863.

Sir

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 27. Oct.1 accompanied by a copy of a despatch from his Grace the Duke of Newcastle to his Excellency the Governor and by copies of letters in reference to the proposed exchange of the Abelian for the Brucean Meteorite, claimed by the British Museum.

Immediately after the receipt of these documents I communicated with Professor M'Coy, the Director of the Melbourne Museum and requested an early reply to His Excellency's enquiry, whether the authorities of our museum are prepared to give up the large Meteorite at present retained at the University on condition of receiving the one which is to be sent to his Excellency.2

As soon as I learn from Professor M'Coy I shall not fail to communicate his answer to you for his Excellency's information.

I have the honor to be,

Sir,

your most obedient and humble servant

Ferd. Mueller

H. L. Warde Esq &c &c &c

Priv. Secretary to his Excellency Governor Sir Charl. Darling K.C.B., &c &c &c
