From Ferdinand von Mueller to Edward Wise   3 Feb 1864

3/2/64.

Dear Sir

I am obliged for the promptness with which you forwarded to me Dr Lhotzkys little book.1 I have glanced through it, but if it containes at all any thing of importance regarding the Australian Alps it must be in that portion, which is wanting in your copy. It would however appear, that it was Lhotzky who named or first made known the Snowy River.

I shall feel greatly obliged for any contributions towards the knowledge of the language of our aborigines & see it properly turned to account & acknowledged.

With kind regards

yr

Ferd. Mueller

Dr Lhotzkys book is returned by this mail.

MS inserted in a copy of J. Lhotsky, Journey to the Australian Alps, 1835. This copy is inscribed by Wise as belonging to him.
