11th June 1864
I have the honor to request you to be present on Tuesday next at half past 12 oClock when the chief Secretary purposes receiving at this office a Deputation from the City Council in support of their request to have that piece of land opposite the Botanical Gardens which was formerly used as a Zoological Garden incorporated with the Town Park.1

A newspaper report of the meeting ('Deputations ... The Zoological Gardens', Argus, 15 June 1864, p. 5) concluded 'Mr. M'Culloch thought that the request of the City Council ought to be granted, if a sufficient guarantee could be given that the plans of the Government botanist would not be affected, and he promised to consider what would be the best course to adopt, and communicate the result to the mayor'.
