From Edmund FitzGibbon to Ferdinand von Mueller   21 June 1864

Town Clerks Office,

Town Hall,

Melbourne June 21st 1864

Dear Sir

I regret that from the press of business I have been unable sooner to address you officially in reference to your letter to Dr Eades of the 20th ultimo offering to plant a row of trees between the footbridge of the Botanical Gardens, and the Railway, if the Corporation would furnish some £30 to defray the costs of labor.1

I have now the honor to inform you that the Health Committee, having reported upon the subject to the City Council, that body has directed me to thank you in its name and to state that it has accepted your proposal and appropriated a sum of £30 for the purpose.2

I have the honor to be,

Dear Sir,

Yours faithfully,

E. G. FitzGibbon

Town Clerk

Dr F. Mueller

Director of the Botanical Gardens
