[The next day we went early to the Government Botanic Gardens,2 … I am promised by the director a quantity of valuable seeds and plants to be delivered to my order next March and April. I gave him a number of packets of Australian seeds, kindly sent to me by Dr. Mueller.]
Letter not found. For the text given here, see 'Mr. C. Ledger', Age, 31 July 1865, p. 6, an account by Ledger of some of his experiences during a visit to Chile following his arrival there on 10 October 1864.
In Santiago, Chile. Since Ledger reports going to Santiago and visiting the Botanic Gardens only a few days after he first arrived at Valparaiso, he must have carried the seeds he mentions from Australia, and so received these from M before the ship that carried him to South America sailed in July 1864.
