I have to request that you will be good enough to forward to this office your Estimates for 1865 by the 21st proxo1 and a statement to the public Works Department of any buildings repairs etc by the 13th proximo.2

The vote approved for the Commissioner of Public Works for 1865 included £2,000 for 'Buildings, Fences and other works, including works for Water Supply at Botanic Gardens (Victoria', Votes and proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, session 1864-5, vol. 1, p. 176).
