From John Moore to Ferdinand von Mueller   12 Aug 1864

12th August 1864

I have the honor to inform you that it has been notified to this Department by the hon. the Commisioner of Trade and Customs that the person named in the margin1 having tendered to perform certain works for the customs Department without having the means of carrying out the same and subsequently withdrawing his tender has been disqualified for twelve months from tendering in connexion with that branch of the public Service

Sd J Moore.

Director

Botanic Gardens

John Jackson, 46 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. Jackson has not been further identified; the address given seems to have functioned as an accommodation address, for many more than the five businesses listed in the 1864 Sands and MacDougal Melbourne directory gave that address in advertisements in the press.

Text from item B3519, addressed to the Registrar General, followed by 'Letter similar to the last sent to the undermentioned Departments' and a list of twelve recipient heads of department.
