Letter not found. The text given here is from Australasian, 19 November 1864, p. 9.

In 'Notes and queries', Australasian, 5 November 1864, p. 8, 'Inquirer' asked whether 'any of your botanical readers can give a list of the terrestrial orchids in the neighbourhood of Melbourne, and the places where they are likely to be found?'

Typesetter's error for September 1853?; see B53.10.01 (which is dated September 1853 on the cover), pp. 18-19. The nature of the misprints in the list suggests that M supplied a handwritten extract, rather than a copy of the published report. M clearly updated his data, with an increase in the numbers of some genera over those recorded in the source document (for example, B53.10.01 includes two Thelymitra species and three Pterostylis species) and the mention of genera not in B53.10.01. A decrease in the number of Glossodia may be because one of the two species M recorded for Victoria was not found near Melbourne.

Microtis?

Chiloglottis?

Eriochylus?

Leptoceras?

Lyperanthus?

Pterostylis?

Acianthus?

Acianthus and Coryanthes are not included in the list in B53.10.01.

terrestrial?

Sarcochilus is not in B53.10.01; M announced its discovery in M to J. O'Shanassy, 24 October 1858, and described it as S. gunnii in B59.02.03, p. 90: but see also M to R. Gunn, 14 December 1858 and M to J. Hooker, 15 December 1858 (in this edition as 58-12-15a).

The following comment is printed at the end of the list: [Two or three of these must be looked for on the Dandenong Ranges. -Ed.]
