From William Hooker   1865

I say it with great regret & with shame: — but I feel utterly incompetent to name these Alsophilae.1 My own are very unsatisfactory: & either we have too many or two2 few species. I believe they are very variable & it is rare we have more than fragment's of the species.

Alsophila

M to W. Hooker, 21 July 1865, refers to Hooker's having returned Alspohila specimens undetermined, and thus appears to be a response to the present document.
