M to H. Warde, 31 March 1865 (in this edition as 65-03-31a), is M's response.
On 20 March 1865, M. Giuseppe Biagi, Italian Consul, Melbourne, wrote to the Governor of Victoria, C. Darling: 'I have the honor to inform your Excellency that the Director of the Royal Museum of Physics and Natural History in Florence, His Exc. the Marquis Cos[mus] Ridolfi having received some interesting botanical contributions sent there last August by the Victorian Government Botanist Dr Mueller, declares, by a letter of the 18th December reaching to me but now, to have been highly gratified by the said valuable supply, which he regards as a flattering attention to the Institution he presides over; in the mean time, offering his best thanks to Doctor Mueller with whom he will gladfully maintain eager intercourse in the interest of science, he has charged me to testify to your Excellency self his most grateful sentiments, as well as his admiration for the rapid progress of this Colony and for its scientifical movement. In complyance with such an agreeable commission, I have the honor to present Marquis Ridolfi's acknowledgements to your Excellency, and I avail myself of the occasion for expressing to you once more how much I feel pleased in every thing which may contribute to entertain cordial correspondence between our respective countries.'
