From Ferdinand von Mueller to James McCulloch   15 May 1865

Melbourne bot. Garden

15/5/65.

Sir

I have the honor to recommend, that permission be granted to Coleman Jacobs Esq. to hold a concert at the botanic Garden on Saturday next in aid of the Leichhardt's search-fund under conditions similar to those of kindred occasions.

I have the honor to be, Sir,

your most obedient servant

Ferd. Mueller.

The honorable the Chief Secretary

On 22 May 1865 McCulloch minuted: 'I cannot comply with the request — but before the application is finally refused I wish to have an interview with Dr Mueller — I hear that the Concert is fixed for the 20th — and the paper has now only come to hand'.

No reports have been found in Melbourne newspapers of the concert being advertised for or held on 20 May 1865.
