From Clement Hodgkinson to Ferdinand von Mueller   22 June 1865

Office of Lands and Survey

Melbourne, 22nd June [1865]1

Sir,

In acknowledging the receipt of your letter of the 15th instant,2 I beg to thank you for the offer and the suggestions therein contained. I believe I shall be able to obtain from nurseries the required number of araucarias of tolerable size, but shall gladly accept of a few two (2) years old Araucaria Cookii and Araucaria Bidwillii.3

I was under the erroneous impression that there were no blue gums in pots in the Botanical Gardens, and as it appears that you could supply some, I would prefer to have forty eight (48) from the Gardens in lieu of those I have purchased, which I will plant in South Park wherein some gums are urgently required.

I will call on you (when convenient to you) in reference to the other trees and shrubs mentioned in your letter.

I have the honor to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient servant4

Assistt Commissioner of Lands and Survey

Ferdinand Mueller Esq

Government Botanist

Letter not found.

The letter probably concerns the planting of the Parliamentary Buildings Reserve; see J Moore to M, 27 April 1865.

There is no signature on the letter-press copy, but Hodgkinson would have signed he original letter.
