Melbourne, July 26, 1865.
Dear Mr Landsborough, —The Ladies' Search Expedition had reached Balranald1 on the 18th. The late rains promise that the progress of the party to the Flinders River2 will be a rapid one; probably not many detains for the sake of obtaining water being needed, and everywhere grass and herbage available.
The party is buoyant with hope; and if the season prove favorable, and no unforeseen calamities take place, we may expect manifold results from the enterprise.
The legal agreement of the contracting parties of the Expedition has been signed,3 and a copy of the document will be sent by the ladies to the Brisbane committee.
It is very friendly of you to have given such prompt attention to the transmission of the rations, and we are all obliged to you also for the continued vivid interest shown by you towards the undertaking.
With friendship, yours,
F. Mueller.

A slightly different version of the letter appeared on the same day in B65.08.01.The report is unsigned but from internal evidence was almost certainly written by M.
