To George Bentham   24 October 1865

bot Garden

24/10/65.

Dear Mr Bentham.

The death of our adored friend Sir Will Hooker has thrown me into the deepest sadness.1 The venerable man evinced always such unbounded almost paternal kindness towards me, that til the end of my days his memory must remain holy to me.

I am not in the spirit to write on scientific subjects to you by this mail. The few notes enclosed were written before the announcement of Sir Williams death.2

I confine myself now then to the remark of my having sent a case of Compositae per "Kent" to Kew.

With veneration

your

Ferd. Mueller
