To Joseph Hooker   25 December 1865

Melbourne botan Garden

Dear Dr Hooker

Could you spare me a plant of Guilielma speciosa, which the venerable Martius recommends for trial in Australia far south. I am also very anxious to have a root of Manihot utilissima, as it is likely a plant fit for meal culture & lucrative for our husbandry. It is actually as yet not in Victoria
