Bishop of Melbourne, a Gentleman much attached to the study of Natural History, being desirous of becoming a fellow of the Linnean Society of London, we the undersigned do of our personal knowledge of him or of his character and acquirements beg to recommend him as deserving of that honor and likely to prove a valuable member2

The Rev. Dr Bleasdale was last year Presid of the R.S. of Vict4

M autograph text and signature; additional supporters' individual signatures. To have been read in April, the note was probably writen for the January mail, after Bleasdale had visited M's house in late December (See M to N. Maskelyne, 25 December 1865 [in this edition as 65-12-25c]).
There is no evidence that Bleasdale completed the election formalities by paying his subscription: his name is absent from all relevant lists in the Linnean Society Archives.
