From Charles Renard to Ferdinand von Mueller   2 Mar 1866

Hochgeehrtester Herr!

Dr Renard

Meine Adresse: Son Excellence, Mr le Conseiller d'état actuel Chs Renard. Moscou. Miloutinskoi Pereoulok. maison Askarchanoff.

Much revered Sir,

While thanking you for the seeds you sent to us, I have at the same time the honour to inform you that at yesterday's meeting the Imperial Society of Naturalists of Moscow has, on my nomination, elected you an active member.1 Would you be so kind as to indicate the best way in which I can later forward your diploma to you.2 It would greatly please our Imperial Society if you could send us the three earlier volumes of your Fragmenta. Generally speaking, we should be much obliged if you could supply us with natural history specimens and even ethnographic objects. The latter would be very appropriate just now as an ethnographic exhibition will be held in Moscow during the spring of 1867 and it would, of course, be very desirable to see Australia represented too. In the already existing ethnographic section of the public museum here, which is under my direction, I have absolutely nothing from Australia. Skulls of the natives there would be very important to us.

Recommending our requests to you and awaiting a few lines in reply, I have the honour to remain, with humble respect

Your most devoted

Dr Renard.
