From Ferdinand von Mueller to James McCulloch   10 Mar 1866

[Forwards applicn from Eight Hours Demonstration Committee for use of portion of the Gardens on the 21st April next.]1

The register indicates that M’s letter was returned to him on 29 March 1866, presumably with the Minister’s decision. The application was evidently approved, since on Saturday 21 April 1866, a procession to mark the tenth anniversary of the Eight Hours movement that started at the Trades Hall in Lygon Street, Carlton, finished at the north ground of the Botanic Garden where ‘a large number of people assembled’ (Age, 23 April 1866, p. 5).

Letter not found; item is a register entry only, recording receipt on 13 March of M’s letter dated 10 March 1866.
