Sir Charles
I beg to forward to your Excellency two copy1 of the 37 Number of my Fragmenta, in which both the genera Cardwellia & Darlingia are now for the first time diagnostified.2 In begging your Excellencys acceptance of the same and in asking to forward kindly one of the prints to the right honorable Minister at the head of the Colonial affairs, I wished also to express my deep gratification for her majesty having in her mildness & benign generosity condescended to identify her illustrious name with the philanthropic work of the Australian Ladies.3
With veneration & obedience your
Ferd. Mueller.
Cardwellia

M wrote 'a copy' but then overwrote 'a' by 'two'.
B66.02.02, pp. pp. 151-2. M erected the genera Darlingia and Cardwellia to honour, respectively, Darling and Britain's Secretary of State for the Colonies, Edward Cardwell.
Queen Victoria had given £100 in support of the Ladies' Leichhardt Search Expedition (see M to A. Petermann, 26 March 1866).
