14 April 1866.
I enclose a copy of a Letter received from the Public Works officer,1 intimating that Departments are expected to exercise due supervision over the Government's Buildings which they occupy either for offices or for other purposes; and that they will be held responsible for taking proper precautions against allowing such buildings to fall into a state of disrepair. The Chief Secretary desires that Mr Wardell's letter shall be entered in the records of your office.
