John Gully had executed water colour paintings based on Haast’s sketches and had issued a prospectus from Day and Son in London, who planned to issue 12 chromolithographs bound together 'and issued at a very moderate price to subscribers, if a hundred are found for the work' ('Gully's New Zealand Scenery', Lyttelton times, 25 February 1865, p. 4). See Haast (1864) for an account of the region illustrated by these sketches. Publication did not proceed. See Paul (1978).
