On the same day, Laurie wrote to G. Lempriere in Melbourne, asking him to take the necessary steps to receive the plants. Lempriere replied on 29 May 1866 that he had been to the Melbourne Botanic Gardens that morning 'but, notwithstanding that Dr Mueller told us — yesterday — they would be ready — the gardener who took 2 cases for them (at the request of Dr Mueller) was told, they could not be got ready, until Saturday next. If received then, they will go by the 'Edina' ' (Letters received, box 11).
