From William Odgers to Ferdinand von Mueller   9 June 1866

9 June 1866.

I am directed by the honorable The Chief Secretary to inform you that the course he desires followed with requisitions from departments in this division of the Service for buildings, works, repairs furniture or anything obtained through the Office of Public Works is this. The requisition should be forwarded by the department to the inspector General of Public Works who will instruct an officer to make an estimate of the cost, and after filling in the estimated amount in the column for the purpose on the requisition form will submit it for the Chief Secretary's consideration accompanied with any remarks he may think required. After approval or rejection the requisition will be returned to the Public Works Office in order if it has been approved that the matter may be taken in hand; if disallowed that the department concerned may receive notice accordingly. It is particularly to be noted that after this date requisitions are not to be submitted without passing through the Office of Public Works.
