17 July /66

To Dr Mueller

Sir

I have the honor to acknowle the rect1 of yr note of this day's date,2 & in reply thereto I beg to inform you that the paragraph you refer to was written by Mr Oakes who is an experienced reporter & was formerly in the Argus — after the meetg broke up Dr Bleasdale who had some business to transact with me remained behind, & before he left the paragraph in question was read over & approved by him — Mr Oakes was sitting behind the President during the whole time of the meetg & his business was solely to prepare the reports for the newspapers — I have carefully read over the accounts as published3 & I think they are substantially correct, so far as briefly epitomizing the business done — I have also looked over my own notes & I find the followg "The report to stand over for further consideration & committee to furnish estimate of cost & time of production."

I have &c
