From Ferdinand von Mueller to Julius Haast   20 Aug 1866

20/8/66

Stets Ihr

verehrungsvoller

Ferd Mueller

20 August 1866.

I am only writing a few hurried lines this morning, dear Dr Haast, to tell you that the packet of lovely plants you gave to my Department was brought to me today by Mr Chevalier,1 also in excellent condition the rootstock of the buttercup with the shield-shaped leaves.

I am sincerely pleased to hear from Mr Chevalier that your good wife is feeling better. With the returning warm weather she will, I hope, recover completely.

I have a few things to send and shall soon write again at greater length.

Always respectfully

your

Ferd. Mueller.

The artist Nicholas Chevalier returned to Melbourne in August 1866 after almost nine months' painting in New Zealand.
