Der Zweck dieses flüchtigen Schreibens, verehrter u. edler Mann, ist einfach der, Ihnen mitzutheilen, dass ich mit dem Schiffe Norfolk am heutigen Tage eine kleine Kiste australischer Mineralien an meine Agenten in London sandte, um solche Ihnen zuzustellen. Ich erkaufte die Sammlung von Herrn Abel, was lange dauerte würde¹ ehe ich selbst eine Series hätte zusammen stellen können, indem meine Berufsgeschäfte mich jetzt fast beständig an meine locale Anstalt fesseln. Meine Agenten, Mess. Betham & Blackitt Coxs Quay, Lower Thames Street, London sind beauftragt Ihnen die Kiste kostenfrei zuzusenden. Ich werde bereitwillig diese Sammlung im Lauf der Zeit vergrössern.

The purpose of this hasty letter, esteemed and noble Sir, is simply to inform you, that this day I sent a small case of Australian minerals with the ship Norfolk to my agents in London, to be forwarded to you. I bought the collection from Mr Abel,³ as it would have taken too long, before I could have put together a series myself, as my professional duties now tie me almost constantly to my local institute. My agents, Messrs Betham & Blackitt,⁴ Cox's Quay, Lower Thames Street, London, have been instructed to forward the case to you free of charge. I shall be happy to enlarge this collection over a period of time.
