I rejoyce to inform you, dear Professor, that I received in good order the case with fine plants you so kindly caused to be forwarded by the "Great Britain" Pray let me mention, that the Owners if asked will send such consignments for the benefit of our departments gratuitously. In this instance, no prearrangement being made, I had to pay £5/18/8 for this one box!! Now at the return of this noble Ship Mess. Bright, as on all former occasions allowed me free transit again for my consignments & availing myself of this favor I forwarded two large boxes to Kew. In one of these is a small collection of tubers of terrestrial Orchids which I have asked Dr Hooker kindly to forward to you.1
Why are these pretty & gay plants so little grown in conservatories?
The 5 vol. of the fragmenta2 is just published & will be sent to you ere long.
Ever your regardful
Ferd Mueller
