From Ferdinand von Mueller to Henry Manners-Sutton   22 Feb 1867

Melbourne botanic Garden

22/2/67

Sir Henry.

I have the honor of submitting to your Excellency some further information received within the last days in reference to the progress of the operations for the search after Dr Leichhardt. The spirited young Gentleman, who now commands the expedition,1 is likely to advance under the favor of cool weather for the next 6 or 7 months widely through the Western Interior, and we may look forward with hopeful interest to the results of his mission.

It devolves on me also to remark to your Excellency, that the Lady-President of the Leichhardt Search Committee2 has adressed her words of thanks to her Majesty, for fostering so condescendingly the enterprise, through Lady Murchison, the generous gift of the Queen having been received through Sir Roderick Murchison, Bart, K.C.B.

I have the honor to be, your Excellencys deeply obedient

Ferd. Mueller.

His Excellency the hon. Sir H. Manners-Sutton, K.C.B., Governor of Victoria
