editorial addition.

The published reports of the meeting of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society held on 25 June (for example Argus, 26 June 1867, p. 5; Age (Melbourne), 26 June 1867, p. 5) spell the name this way and describe it as 'a native of Natal'. The spelling is probably a corruption of the Zulu name Amatungulu, usually identified as Carissa macrocarpa. In B76.12.07 and later editions, M has an entry for C. arduina that includes references to other species, all described as being suitable for hedge plants and yielding succulent fruit; he gave no common name.
