Letter not found. The text given here is from the minutes of the meeting of the Horticultural Society of Victoria held on 14 August 1867. Toon was Honorary Secretary of the Society. See also J. Toon to M, 13 June, 3 July and 11 July 1867.
This refers to a dispute between the Society and the Commissioners of the Intercolonial Exhibition held in Melbourne in 1866-7 over the policy relating to the awarding of medals and certificates. According to the report of the meeting in the Argus, 15 August 1867, p. 5, M in his letter ‘regrett[ed] that he had been unable to affect a settlement of the dispute between the commissioners of the Intercolonial Exhibition and the exhibitors’. The meeting resolved ‘that the Hon. Sec. write to Dr Mueller respecting his application for a settlement of the a/c outstanding with the Commissioners of the Intercolonial Exhibition’; see J.
