Letter not found. M was at Queenscliff, Vic, at this time, in the hope of overcoming persistent ill-health. Heyne sent this list, which is in M's hand, to the President of the Board of Land and Works, James Grant, on 3 August 1867, together with a requisition for 80 copies of the 5th volume of Fragmenta phytographiae Australiae, saying in his covering letter that he had received a letter from M that day with instructions to submit these documents for approval. In addition, 'I am also requested by Dr Mueller to ask your favourable consideration of his letter dated July 17th [letter not found] in which he submitted a list of recipients who seemed to him entitled to receive the 3rd Volume of the Universal Work on Australian plants edited by the President of the Linnean Society in London in conjunction with himself [i.e. Bentham (1863-78), vol. 3], thirty copies of which having been received by him on behalf of the Victorian Government'. Grant minuted his approval of the proposals on the file. One of the presentation copies of Volume 3 of Flora Australiensis was inscribed 'To his Excellency the honorable Sir H. Manners Sutton, K.C.B., Governor of Victoria, with Ferd. Mueller's most profound regards'; the copy is now in the library at the Benedictine Community in New Norcia, WA, along with a copy of volume 4 inscribed 'To his Excellency the hon. Sir Henry Manners Sutton, K.C.B., Governor of Victoria offered with Ferd von Mueller's profound regards'.
