From Ferdinand von Mueller to Joseph Hooker   27 Dec 1867

27/12/67

I have an idea, dear Dr Hooker, that Eriophorum (any tall species) would thrive among the Junci and Melaleuca of my gardens Swamp. Should at any time a passenger come out, willing to water a good turf of such a plant in a calico-case on the voyage could you oblige me with a plant then? It would be highly interesting to have the plant in Australia.

Always your

You will receive 50 kinds of seeds from North East Australia by this mail.1 I feel much pleased with the beautiful plate of Alsophila Rebeccae2 I have the plant growing 12' high, but I failed to get Alsophila Robertsiana which is still higher, alive to Melbourne.
