To George Bentham   10 February 1868

On the other page,1 dear Mr Bentham, you will find an inventory of Box 37, shipped by the Dovre2 Castle, which ship sailes to morrow. I have still 40 fasc of Monopetaleae in a very forward state of arrangement and elaboration & shall send these off also within the next weeks. You will then have got altogether 163 fasc. Monopetaleae for volume 4. In many of the orders genera have been doubled & the species tripled. Thus RBrown had in Loganiaceae only Strychnos, Logania & Mitrasacme, while my collection brings Fagraea, Gardenia, Mitreola & Geniostoma in addition. Alstonia RBr had not at all, strange to say, — I have 6 species. The Mitrasacmes I have like many other plants only hurriedly arranged; so the flowers & capsules have to be analysed. It is hopeless to identify RBr species without reference to his original material. Of Parsonsia (incl. Lyonsia)3 I have 11 species, of which you will get printed notes probably already by the next mail, other wise a month later.4

Is Mr Oldfield still in communication with Kew?5 If so, I should gladly send him occasionally some of the papers, dwelling on his plants, though I fear his eyesight is lost.

With most friendly regards

your

Ferd. von Mueller
