Public Library
March 27th 1868
My dear Dr Mueller
1, By an oversight which ought not to have occurred the accompanying part, No 13 of the Ornithology of Australia1 was stamped with the Stamp of the Public Library before the address (on the outside to you) was observed. —
2, The Author enclosed it in a package containing several other numbers intended for the Library, and omitted to write a letter or send a message apprising the Librarian of the fact that the number in question was for you. —
3, As the writing on the outside is very Small it escaped observation until after the mischief was done. —
4, Be so good as to pardon this unpremeditated injury to your book, and say whether you wish to have an entry made in it explaining the presence of the Stamp.2
Believe me my dear Dr Mueller
Very faithfully
(Signed) Redmond Barry
