From Ferdinand von Mueller to Frederick Standish   17 Apr 1868

Melbourne bot. Garden

17/4/68.

Dear Capt. Standish

A horse, which I used for several years mainly in Governments service has become unfit lately for further work, and as it would be a cruelty to destroy the poor brute, I venture to ask, whether it could be placed with the two others, which you were so kind to allow to pass the rest of their days at Dandenong.1

With regardful salutation your

Ferd. von Mueller.2

Presumably the two horses mentioned in M to F. Standish, 14 July 1866.

MS annotation by Standish: 'Seen'. There is, however, no indication as to whether M's request was acceded to.
