24 April 1868
Sir
I have the honour by direction of the Borough Council of Warrnambool to beg that you will be good enough to inform them the name of enclosed grass & also whether you are aware if the seed could be obtained.
You would confer a favour on the Council by also stating whether you could furnish them with the maratime pine or any suitable plant likely to take root & grow on the sand hummocks.
The grass now forwarded to you seems to grow luxuriantly in the sand.
If you could let me have an answer by return of post I should be much obliged.
I have the honour to be
Sir
Your obedt Servt
