Melbourne, im botanischen Garten,

am 11. Sept. 1868.

Excellenz,

Es liegt mir die ehrenvolle Pflicht ob, die jüngst angekommene gütige Zuschrift Ihrer Excellenz anzuerkennen, und Sr. Majestät dem Könige von Württemberg meinen tiefgefühlten Dank auszudrücken für die huldreiche Weise, in welcher es Sr. Majestät gefiel, meine Bethätigungen an den Anstalten der Wissenschaften des Württembergischen Königreiches aufzunehmen. Diese gnädige Gesinnung Ihres erhabenen Landesherren wird mich ermuthigen, Alles aufzubieten, auch in künftigen Jahren die Schätze der Natur Australiens Ihrem Reiche zuzuführen. Es ist sehr ehrend für mich, von Ew. Excellenz benachrichtigt zu werden, dass meine Vorschläge in Bezug auf das erste Stipendium, von Ihrer Regierung Bestätigung erlangen werden.

Es gereicht mir zur Freude, edler Herr, Ihnen mittheilen zu können, dass bereits wieder eine grössere Kiste mit Naturalien zur Absendung nach Stuttgart bereit steht, und dass die Versendung mir dem Dampfschiffe Great Britain Anfangs nächsten Monats veranstaltet werden wird.

Your Excellency,

I have the honourable duty to acknowledge the recently arrived letter from Your Excellency,2 and to express my deeply felt gratitude to His Majesty, the King of Württemberg, for the gracious manner in which His Majesty deigned to accept my activities on behalf of the scientific institutes of Württemberg. This gracious disposition of your august Sovereign will encourage me to summon all my energy in order to bring to your country also in future years the treasures of nature from Australia. It is a great honour for me to be informed by Your Excellency, that my propositions concerning the first foundation will find acceptance with your government.

It is my pleasure, noble Sir, to be able to inform you, that again another large case with natural history objects is standing ready for Stuttgart, and the transmission will be arranged by the steamer Great Britain at the beginning of next month.
