To Robert Ellery   10 October 1868

10/10/68

Dear Dr Ellery

Some time since I pointed out that Dr O. W. Sonder of Hamburg, the great collaborator of the late Prof Harvey,1 had for years been the means of effecting interchanges for the Royal Society of Victoria, and that I thought it would have been a graceful token of respect if he was placed on the roll of the honorary members of the Society.2 The same request was simultaneously made by me to the Tasmanian Society by myself, which at once most gracefully responded to my suggestion.3

This week again I had occasion to send some publications to the R. S. free of expenses, which contributions came again through Dr Sonder's care, and I must confess I feel some what hurt that the small recognition, which I desired for so excellent generous & learned a man, was hitherto — as far as I know — not conferred.

your regardful

Ferd von Mueller4
